The Saturday Cleaning
Why our elders started the week on Saturday.
4 min read
In many Caribbean homes, the week did not begin on Monday. It began with Saturday cleaning — windows opened, floors washed, beds remade, the whole house given fresh breath.
How We Hold This Knowledge
Rooted Ritual™ honors Caribbean traditions while distinguishing cultural wisdom from medical advice. Our wellness library is designed for education, reflection, and daily ritual support. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace care from a qualified healthcare professional.
Current understanding
You don't have to clean the whole house. Clean one room. Open one window. Light one stick of incense or one candle. Let the house exhale.
A Rooted Ritual practice
A small Saturday clearing
- Open one window wide for at least 10 minutes.
- Make the bed with intention, smoothing the sheets slowly.
- Wipe one surface — table, mirror, sink — until it shines.
- Sit in the room when you're done. Notice the difference.
A Reflection
